Rideshare 2014

Rideshare 2014 was held throughout October - thank you to all the individuals and organizations that made it a success. Rideshare Week is a nationally-recognized event held the first full week in October to promote alternative commutes and their many benefits. San Diegans were invited to celebrate all month long by replacing their solo drive with a new, more sustainable commute choice: carpool, bike, walk, public transit, and vanpool. Rideshare Month helped contribute to significant environmental savings:

  • More than 33,000 gallons of gasoline saved, enough to fill almost 790 barrels of oil!
  • Nearly $350,000 saved, enough to spend 637 nights at the Hotel Del Coronado.
  • More than 5.4 million calories burned biking or walking to work, equivalent to playing more than 14,500 hours of golf at Torrey Pines.
Rideshare 2014 Corporate Challenge
Fifty-one organizations representing more than 102,000 employees participated in the iCommute Rideshare Corporate Challenge as a fun way to support corporate transportation, parking, and environmental/green goals. Employees of participating organizations were encouraged to save money, recapture time, and reduce stress by trying a new commute.

From October 1 - 31, employers received one point for every eligible commute trip logged by employees, and participating employees were automatically entered into weekly prize drawings. These employers won the challenge by having the highest average number of points in their size category - congratulations!

  • Micro Employer: Circulate San Diego
  • Small Employer: Parsons Brinckerhoff
  • Medium Employer: Dudek
  • Large Employer: Port of San Diego
  • Macro Employer: UTC Aerospace Systems
  • Mega Employer: Sharp HealthCare
Winning employers will receive recognition in a print ad in a regional newspaper and on the iCommute website, a commemorative plaque, and mention in a SANDAG press release.

They shared their ride. They shared their story. They won prizes.
Thanks to those who shared their alternative commute story with us on social media. By using a green commute, you joined others throughout the San Diego region that chose to save money and time, reduce stress, or get fit by leaving a solo drive behind. Twenty-two commuters who shared their story won prizes, two of which won a grand prize - a bike from Performance Bicycle!

Rideshare Roadshow. Thank you to everyone who visited an iCommute Rideshare Roadshow during National Rideshare Week, October 6-10. Visitors enjoyed free snacks and music, and learned about available commute choices. Visit our Facebook page to see photos from the five Rideshare Roadshow events.

The fun and benefits don't end with Rideshare Month.
There are monthly prize drawings for commuters who choose alternative, more sustainable ways of getting to work or school. Anyone who logs at least eight days of alternative commute trips in TripTracker is eligible. Get started by logging into your existing iCommute account, or set up a new account. Then, log your trips in TripTracker for the chance to win!
