Use some pedal power and join thousands of San Diegans on Friday, May 21, 2010, for Bike to Work Day! A nationally recognized event, Bike to Work Day supports bicycling as a viable, environmentally-friendly commute option. The event occurs annually on the third Friday of May, which is National Bike Month.
In 2009, 5,000 San Diego region participants navigated their commute on two wheels. If you are interested in trying a commute that can save you money and reduce your carbon footprint, then check out iCommute to get the resources you need – how to get started, bike maps, and information on taking your bike on transit. It’s all right here!
New for 2010 – the Bike to Work Day Corporate Challenge! The Corporate Challenge will encourage companies and organizations to compete within their size category. Each will strive to have the highest percentage of employees ride on Bike to Work Day. Download the Corporate Challenge packet for more information.
Not sure if there is a good route for bikes from your home to workplace? Check out the San Diego Regional Bikeway Map. To help you along your ride, Bike to Work Day offers pit stops – places where riders can pick up free water, a snack, and lots of encouragement! In 2009, there were a record 56 pit stop locations throughout the region. Find the best location along your route beginning in April.
Do you need to take transit for part of your commute? Many buses and rail lines are equipped to secure bicycles (and some may offer a free fare for those cycling to work on May 21!). Learn more about taking your bike on transit.
Thanks to San Diego County Credit Union, our Presenting Sponsor, for once again championing Bike to Work Day. This event could not happen without our many sponsors, so please show them your support.
Ready to ride? Registration opens in February! By registering in advance, you will receive a receipt for an official BTWD t-shirt*, and you will be entered into a drawing for valuable prizes! In 2009, prizes ranged from San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park passes to an electric bicycle.
Already bike to work? Log your trips on iCommute to see your emissions and cost savings. Also, be entered to win additional prizes when you log your bike trip on May 21, 2010.
