The Corporate Challenge, a new BTWD event in 2010, encouraged companies and organizations to compete within their size category for the highest percentage of ridership. Thirty-five companies participated, each striving to have the highest percentage of employees ride on Bike to Work Day. Thanks to everyone that participated—every mile made a difference in reducing traffic congestion and environmental pollutants! The winners of the Corporate Challenge are:
Small Company (1-99 employees)
Winner: High Tide Properties, 66.7% participation
Medium Company (100-499 employees)
Winner: Takeda San Diego, 9.3%
Large Company (500+ employees)
Winner: Nokia, 6.73%
Not sure if there is a good route for bikes from your home to workplace? Check out the San Diego Regional Bikeway Map. To help along the ride, Bike to Work Day offered pit stops – places where riders picked up free water, a snack, and lots of encouragement. This year there were a record 65 pit stop locations throughout the region! Watch this Today Show segment to see biking win in a Commuter Challenge!
Do you want to take transit for part of your commute? Many buses and rail lines are equipped to secure bicycles. On May 21, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) provided FREE rides on all MTS buses and Trolleys! North County Transit District (NCTD) offered free rides on the COASTER. Learn more about taking your bike on transit.
Thanks to San Diego County Credit Union, our Presenting Sponsor, for once again championing Bike to Work Day. This event could not happen without our many sponsors, so please show them your support.
