Benefits are Available for Companies of Any Size. iCommute assists companies large and small, private and public, in setting up commuter benefit programs. Programs range from encouraging employees to ride share, use transit, or bike to work, to subsidizing transportation costs.
In the San Diego Region there are many organizations and agencies that have model commuter programs and help their employees with their commute:
Exemplary companies in the San Diego region have earned a SANDAG Diamond Award for their ongoing efforts to provide and promote commuter programs. Some have also received national recognition from the Best Workplaces for Commuters alliance formed between the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The Diamond Awards honor organizations and individuals for their outstanding contributions to reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions in the San Diego region. Awards are given annually to private companies, non-profit organizations, public agencies, and individuals.
In March 2009, SANDAG honored eight organizations and two individuals for their efforts to reduce traffic congestion in the San Diego region at the seventh annual Diamond Awards ceremony held during the SANDAG Board of Directors meeting.
Nominations are open to any business, agency, or other organization in the region that has a commuter benefit program for employees. Applications are accepted in January and February. For more information, please contact Deborah Jones at (619) 699-6988, or e-mail icommute@sandag.org.
